Determining whether you should buy dog insurance, or any pet insurance, is usually a financial question that depends on your personal situation. Taking any pet to the veterinarian can be a costly trip, no matter what the problem is. (A recent late night trip to an animal hospital cost us $90, and it involved nothing but a simple examination.) Unfortunately, most pet insurance plans are expensive as well.
Coverage varies between carriers and plans, too. Before making a decision, take the time to compare all of the insurance options available online and through your local vet and humane society. Make sure you understand exactly what is and is not covered. Some plans cover accidents only, some cover accidents and illness, and some even cover wellness plans and vaccinations.
